Our Projects

Since our inception, we’ve worked around the clock to expand our causes and help those who need our help. Every contribution goes toward making our world a better place, so if you’re looking to contribute a donation or your time, please get in touch today. Making a positive difference has never been so easy. We also thank all our funders for all their support.

Community Ambition Project - Sept 2021

BWAE Would like to thank Ipswich mosque for meeting us today to discuss the community Ambition project @ NHS Charities TogetherColchester & Ipswich Hospitals Charity.

We greatly appreciate your time and willingness to assist and look forward to working with you in partnership to deliver the project.

Support for Afghan Refugees - Sept 2021

BWAE worked with Colchester Borough Council and Refugee Action to support recent arrival of Afghan refugees.
BWAE helped to provide families with clothes and essential items donated by the Local community. BWAE also arranged a trip to the seaside, thank you Community 360 for transport and Refugee Action for lunch.

We had a lovely day!

Allotment project with Cultural Diversity & Colchester Borough Council - Jun 2021

This project was aimed at improving community grounds and involving the BWAE women. An unsightly overgrown plot was harbouring rubbish and was in need of an urgent makeover. We got to work by properly clearing it then, planting fruits and veg.
A big thank you to Indi Sadhu (Creative Director of Cultural Diversity Project) for donating allotment tools and seeds to start our allotment project. We also thank the team at Cultural Diversity Project and Colchester Borough Council for their support.

Improving Health Information - Apr 2021

The aim of our project is to improve access and information for the BAME communities and interact with the local health system. We will work closely with statutory bodies and network with other voluntary organisations. We will particularly look at support for carers, mental health and develop an education package for our health professionals so that better understanding of the needs of the communities is addressed. We thank NHS Community Ambition Funding Programme for funding the project as well as Suffolk and North Essex Integrated Care System Team for their huge support.

Vaccines for the Community - Feb 2021

With the mixed messages about vaccines, BWAE and Colchester Mosque worked in partnership with NHS to roll out the vaccinations to our local community. Our presence ensured our community vaccines are vital which led to increased vaccinations within our community. NHS have gone above and beyond in helping our community to have the vaccination in a safe environment catering to the needs of our community.

Ladies Only Swimming

As swimming is a favoured activity for keeping fit, we identified a need for an only ladies swimming pool. We  we acted as a group to drive the initiative for an only ladies pool. Colchester Citizens Alliance along with other organisations stepped in and we were present at the demonstrations. It turned out not only BAME (Black, Asian, Minority and Ethnic) women felt the need for an only ladies pool but other women too including those who have suffered domestic violence and rape. It was a huge success and is now regularly available at the Leisure Centre Colchester.
